Arsenic and Old Lace, written by Joseph Kesselring is about two sweet old ladies who poison lonely old men as charity, in order to save them from the sorrows of this world. They then have one of their nephews, who thinks he is Teddy Roosevelt, bury the bodies in their cellar. When their sane nephew Mortimer finds out, he tries to protect his aunts. Another nephew, Jonathan, is up to no good and arrives for a visit with some surprises of his own. It is a mad capped comedic thriller of a play. Arsenic and Old Lace is one of the first and funnies comedies of the multiple murder, and with its debut it put black comedy well and truly back on the theatrical map.
